How it works, what’s covered, and how to file a claim
Sure, being a homeowner is great, but being a new construction homeowner…? Well, let’s just say that comes with a whole lot of perks! Starting with the Builder Backed Warranty that’s included with your Holt home. While our warranty provider created a nice 44-page booklet with all the key details, we understand that warranty terms and conditions aren’t always the most compelling read.
We’re here to provide an overview on your Workmanship Warranty, so you can quickly understand how it works, what’s covered, and how to file a claim.
Overview
Your Workmanship Warranty (not to be confused with your Distribution Systems or Structural Warranty) applies to all fit, finish, and materials used in the construction of your home. This includes things like drywall, flooring, countertops, and fixtures. As a Holt Homeowner, this warranty is automatically included for your first year in your Holt home starting on closing day, ensuring that your newly constructed home functions like one!
To make this possible, Holt Homes partners with 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty to ensure all Holt homes are covered. So Holt, as the homebuilder, services accepted claims within the warranty’s timeline, while 2-10 HBW, as the warranty provider, sets the rules and conditions.
If you get closer to the one year mark and decide you’d like to continue your coverage, 2-10 HBW offers all sorts of options on their site you can purchase separately. Just keep in mind that only the first year will be serviced by the Holt team.
Your home has already been registered on the 2-10 site by Holt to activate your coverage on time for your first day of ownership. Once you’re registered, you should be able to create a 2-10 account which gives you the ability to keep all your warranties in one place, access the digital version of your certificates, and download your digital warranty materials.
What’s Covered
Your Workmanship Warranty covers thirteen different categories of both indoor and outdoor items in your home — that’s a lot of items! These include everything from roof coverings, to cabinets, to countertops, drywall, floors, and — we cannot emphasize this enough — so much more.
While water or electrical problems will require immediate attention, most issues tend to be cosmetic such as nail pops, drywall cracks, and grout flaws. These types of issues can all be saved for your 1-year check-in repair service. This allows for all fit and finish items to be addressed in an as efficient way possible for both you and Holt.
Pro Tip: Keeping a list of the items you’d like to be addressed by Holt on your 1-year check-in ensures every item gets addressed! You also have a 30-day check-in where you can report anything you’re noticing.
Homeowner Responsibilities
With great home warranties come great homeowner responsibilities. Most — if not all — home warranties require some level of homeowner participation to keep your home maintained. In other words, claims cannot be made due to homeowner damage or neglect — another good reason to stay on top of your maintenance tasks!
Maintenance guidelines and tips for many materials in your home can be found inside your booklets. Your blue and grey booklet will be your best friend, and once you get used to the layout it will be much easier to quickly reference any areas you’re unsure about. Starting on page 15, you’ll find breakdown sections, categories, responsibilities, and more to help you understand specific coverage details (see example below).

Filing a Claim
If you need to file a claim under your Workmanship Warranty, it’s best to contact the Holt customer care team using the warranty submission form on our website: Holt Home Warranties.
Remember that for any non-major issues, waiting until your 1-year check-in has the most benefit to you. This is because as your house settles, it’s natural to find little areas that need tune-ups. Tackling any issues at once will help you maximize your service appointment.
After you file a claim, Holt will process it, investigate according to the guidelines set by the warranty provider (2-10 HBW), and remedy any covered defects by following the warranty’s Construction Performance Guidelines.
Keep in mind all claims must be filed no later than 15 days after the expiration of the Workmanship Warranty (the end of your one year mark).
