Winter 2025 Color Trends - Earthy & Warm

Stay up-to-date on trends and new home building topics

Make a house a home using Nature's Palette

There’s a shift happening in the world of interior design, and it’s all about embracing the warm, rich hues of nature. Say goodbye to the cool grays and sterile whites of the past decade - this season, it’s all about those deep, saturated tones that make a room feel grounded and lived in. We’re talking rich browns, buttery yellows, terracotta, and forest green - colors that make staying in the obvious choice.

Ready for a refresh? Here’s how to make your house feel like home with these trending shades without breaking the bank.

If you’re looking to make a big impact, paint is your best friend. We’re no longer under the spell of white walls in every room (hallelujah). There’s simply some kind of magic that happens when you envelop an entire room in a moodier shade.

Dark space lacking direct light? Think dark green with warm undertones, rich clay-like reds leaning almost chocolatey, or a subtle yellow to balance out the coolness.

Small bathroom without a window? An olive green or chalky blue can do wonders to modernize and open it up.
Scared to commit to a whole room? Paint just the ceiling, a door, or the inside of the bookcase, too, to get that pop of color in a more modern feeling way than an accent wall.

*A pro tip: if you’re going to paint the whole room, take it a step further and paint the ceiling and molding, too - trust us. While it may take some deconditioning from design trends of the past, by avoiding breaking up the lines color wise, you make the space feel bigger, more cohesive, and custom done.

2. Textiles: Your Shortcut to Cozy

If paint is a bit too permanent, textiles are an easy way to dip your toes into these deeper tones. Think old-school plaid pillows in yellows and browns, burnt orange area rugs, or even a cozy blanket in a rust-colored knit. These colors have a way of warming up a room that makes it feel lived-in and inviting.

If you’re into DIY’s don’t stop there - swap out your dining room chair cushion fabric for something in a rich caramel or spice hue or find some vintage fabric and sew curtains that bring the warmth. The beauty of using textiles is that you can change them out seasonally or whenever the mood strikes, making it a low-risk way to experiment with new color trends.

3. Décor: The Details Count

You don’t need a full room makeover to make a difference - a few intentional pieces can go a long way.

Look for functional objects in natural materials. Pottery in soft sand or clay tones, a warm wood side table, or a collection of vintage brass candlesticks can add just the right amount of earthiness without feeling over the top.

A good rule of thumb when looking to add warmth is to find pieces that are handmade rather than mass-produced. There’s something about the imperfectness that brings comfort. Look for art, ceramics, trays, and trinkets that add depth and character.
